Joe has spent over 20 years in the Business either acting or behind the camera (DOP, Producing & now Directing) or working all aspects of the Technical side of Theatre. Having studied ‘O’ & ‘A’ Level Theatre Arts he bypassed the traditional Drama School route into the business and instead opted to build a skill set in the ‘University of Real Life’ that has proved invaluable in his varied career.
He made his professional stage debut in “Fall of the House of Usher” by Nick Myles in Hampstead and then rapidly jumped behind the camera to follow LTJ Bukem to collect footage for a documentary over 3 years with TunnelVision having met him whilst Freelancing at MTV. His TV debut came at virtually the same time with a role in some idents for CITV. He then met and worked in several pieces with Gareth Ellis-Unwin including “Civil War: England’s Fight For Freedom”, Sky’s “Dream Team” and BBC’s “Jerusalem The Golden” alongside Eddie Marsan for Black History Month. In the last couple of years Joe has added a couple of TV Pilots to the list, “Plastic Gangsters” for Henry Tomlinson, “Nearly New” which is still being considered for commissioning and just out of post “The Block” for DTFilms where he worked alongside Karen Bryson MBE. He appeared on the BBC again recently in Matt Lucas’ “Pompidou”.
Joe added many theatre credits to his name in the early noughties including “Bouncers”, “Zoo Story” and some site specific pieces ‘taking theatre to people who don’t usually encounter it’. A phase of Irish plays followed, such as “Shadow of a Gunman” and “Dancehall Days” culminating in a tour of Ireland with “Big Maggie”. More recent theatre credits include the UK Premier of “Count Oederland” at The White Bear and Arcola Theatre’s and the first London revival of ‘Jerusalem’ at Lost Theatre.
During this time Joe has also added several Feature Films, over 40 Short films including co-writing, Producing & Acting in “Tales Of The Legbreaker”, a couple of Web Series, numerous Commercials, Rehearsed Readings, Music Video’s and some Voiceover work to his CV. He has also performed drama on Radio and appeared on the Internet in Sketch Shows and Public Information viral films.
Running parallel with this Joe has been working as a Theatre Technician/Production Manager since 2002 in an Independent School overseeing a minimum of 3 Productions per year, covering everything from Lights, Sound, Set, Props, Costume & Make-Up through to Filming and Editing the Productions and teaching teenagers in the process. Managing the Theatre on a day to day basis was also part of his remit and he also oversaw the complete refurbishment of the Theatre in 2008 having worked extremely closely with the Architects on the design.
